Singapore Airshow 2018 - Wrap Up

170 companies represented the United States —
111 of them in the USA Partnership Pavilion at the
Changi Exhibition Centre.

THE 2018 AIRSHOW WAS A SUCCESS FOR AMERICA!

Kallman Worldwide took pride in helping the United States aerospace and defense industry build on its established leadership position in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region during the 2018 Singapore Airshow, February 6-11, 2018 at Changi Exhibition Centre.

More than a year of pre-show coordination and planning with show organizers Experia Events, the U.S. Departments of State, Defense and Commerce and our advocacy partners at the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) came together to deliver more of what American exhibitors were going for — market opportunities, business relationships and on-site impact !

LARGEST SHOW PRESENCE REFLECTED MUTUAL INTERESTS

The American showing at Singapore was a strong indication of how important the Indo-Asia-Pacific region is to the U.S. aerospace and defense industry, and that countries across the region are asking America for innovative solutions and partners.

The U.S. claimed the largest international presence at Changi with more than 170 exhibitors covering nearly 30% of the show’s total 40,000 sqm of indoor exhibit space, plus a range of military and civil aircraft in static and flying displays.

Most of the U.S. participation took place in the nearly 2,000 sqm USA Partnership Pavilion, which featured 111 exhibitors (65 for the first time at the show, 31 new to market), representing 23 states and a wide cross-section of U.S. industry, all looking to generate new business and create jobs by growing exports, expanding in-region operations and/or recruiting overseas partners to establish or participate in U.S.-based operations.

Notably, seven state departments of economic development and commerce — Arizona, California, Idaho, Maryland, Missouri, New York and Oregon — hosted their own state-branded pavilions featuring state-based co-exhibitors within the larger USA Partnership Pavilion.

VIP VISITORS

The U.S. State Department’s decision to send Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, Ambassador Tina Kaidanow (right) to the show made news headlines because it was seen as a demonstration of the Trump Administration’s “Buy American” initiative and a gesture of support for allies and U.S. industry. The media spotlight on her presence in the Pavilion during the show attracted extra attention and interest in U.S. exhibitors.

COORDINATION WITH U.S. GOVERNMENT STAKEHOLDERS

The Commercial Service Singapore team headed by Maggie Hanson-Muse, Stephen Jacques and Ng Haw Cheng — and supported by 12 posts including Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam — produced an on-site ShowTime program that is estimated to return $20 million in export successes to be realized over the next 12-24 months.

OFFICIAL DELEGATIONS WERE BUYING

A steady stream of military and commercial buying delegations from the Indo-Asia-Pacific region visited the USA Partnership Pavilion during the show. Depending on their expressed interests, Pavilion staff personally escorted them to exhibitors who could best serve their needs.

U.S. EXHIBITOR KICK-OFF BEACH BASH

SE3_0505

The night before the show opened, Kallman Worldwide and TWI Group welcomed U.S. exhibitors to a waterfront beach party at the Shangri-La Sentosa Resort. Guests enjoyed a beach buffet, music by the U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific, and a cross-section of local culture including a snake charmer (with a very friendly snake), fire dancers and tarot card readers.

USA-ASEAN PARTNERSHIP RECEPTION

P2015009

This centerpiece evening gala at the Clifford Pier overlooking iconic Marina Bay officially recognized the “past, present and future of U.S.-ASEAN relations,” and those nations were well represented among the more than 300 government, military and industry guests who attended this major highlight of the USA Partnership Pavilion Singapore Airshow experience.

DOD AIRCRAFT CORRAL TOUR

P2016399

USAF Deputy Under Secretary Grant generously led an exclusive one-hour tour for USA Partnership Pavilion exhibitors to visit featured Air Force aircraft in the DoD Corral. Co-hosted by AIA, whose chalet served as a home-base for USAF flight crews assigned to the show, the tour included the F-35 and F-22 fighters, C17, Globalhawk UAV and C-130 aircraft.

OPENING CEREMONY & PAVILION TOUR

U.S. Embassy Singapore Chargé d’Affaires Stephanie Syptak-Ramnath (front row, pink jacket) hosted a delegation of distinguished visitors to officially open the USA Partnership Pavilion. Among the ribbon-cutters were Commerce Under Secretary for Industry and Security, Mira Ricardel (left of Chargé Syptak-Ramnath); Deputy Under Secretary of the Air Force for International Affairs, Heidi H. Grant (back row, red jacket); Lieutenant General Charles Hooper, Director of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (back row, center); and AIA VP of International Affairs, Remy Nathan (right of Chargé Syptak-Ramnath). PAVILION EXHIBITORS IN THE HEADLINES

As the largest international presence at the show, the United States attracted extra media interest. News coverage of the USA Partnership Pavilion affirmed the importance of the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to America's aerospace and defense industry, and that countries across the region are turning to the United States for innovative partners and solutions.
