HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Campers who attended Space Camp on the Astronaut Al Worden Endeavour Scholarship graduated today in a special ceremony at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.

The Endeavour Scholarship allows students from around the world to attend Space Camp in Huntsville at no cost. The program is named for the late Al Worden, the Apollo 15 command module pilot who flew to the moon in 1971 and later became a vocal advocate for international space education.

Ahead of the ceremony, FOX54 spoke with the scholarship’s co-founder and a camper from Australia. Both described how the program helps build international cooperation in space exploration.

“No one country has the finance or the engineers or the propulsion system or the environmental system, but it’s got to be a global, global initiative to make it happen,” said Tom Kallman, co-founder of the Endeavour Scholarship. “And we’re starting with high schoolers to get them to understand and start thinking globally.”

Camper Anna Alfred said the scholarship erased any sense of division among the international group of students.
