Moonwalker and Astronaut Charlie Duke Announced as Guest of Honor at Farnborough International Airshow, Serving as Goodwill Ambassador for U.S. Industry and Future STEM Leaders

Waldwick, NJ, USA and Farnborough, UK — Former astronaut and the youngest person to ever walk on the moon, Brigadier General Charlie Duke (USAF, Ret.) will attend the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) taking place this July as a Guest of Honor and goodwill ambassador for U.S. industry and the Kallman Foundation’s Endeavour Scholarship.

Kallman Worldwide, organizer of the USA Partnership Pavilion at the show, will host the Apollo 16 Lunar Module Pilot, along with a series of events highlighting U.S. industry’s commitment to international trade and future workforce development. Farnborough International Airshow is one of the world’s leading and most international aerospace trade shows, attracting over 100,000 visitors and featuring almost 1,500 exhibitors. This year’s event will be its largest and most ambitious in its 78-year history, following record-breaking demand from international organizations and the addition of a brand-new sixth exhibition hall.

“Farnborough International Airshow has always been a platform for showcasing global innovation and international collaboration,” said Gareth Rogers, CEO, Farnborough International. “Welcoming the inspiring Charlie Duke and championing the Endeavour Scholarship reflect just some of the ways we are celebrating the United States, our largest international participant, during its landmark 250th anniversary year.”

As one of only four surviving astronauts who have walked on the moon, Charlie Duke represents the pinnacle achievement in aerospace made possible through the efforts of hundreds of firms, many of whom are on display at Farnborough, and the nearly 400,000 NASA Apollo employees who collaborated on accomplishing this groundbreaking feat.

“General Duke reminds us that the greatest advancements in aerospace have always been driven by collaboration and courage. We are honored to have him represent the USA Partnership Pavilion and join us, through the Endeavour Scholarship, in celebrating the remarkable students who will become the explorers and engineers of tomorrow,” shared Tom Kallman, President & CEO, Kallman Worldwide. This summer, Kallman celebrates its 30th year organizing the U.S. Pavilion at the show.

In addition to walking on the Moon, another defining moment in Charlie Duke’s career came during the Apollo 11 Moon landing, when he served as CAPCOM, the Capsule Communicator and sole voice linking the astronauts and Mission Control, during that critical phase of the mission. This year marks the 57th anniversary of that historic achievement, providing a fitting backdrop for the Pavilion’s Opening Ceremony at Farnborough.

“It is increasingly important that we prioritize and support the next generation of STEM leaders,” said General Duke. “That’s why I’m proud to serve as a goodwill ambassador for the Endeavour Scholarship. These young people will usher us into a better tomorrow, and their passion and determination will shape humanity’s future.”
