Astronaut Al Worden Endeavour Scholarship
The “Astronaut Al Worden Endeavour Scholarship,” is a new international education program to reward aspiring young space explorers and their teachers with a hands-on astronaut training experience at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center’s renowned Space Camp in Huntsville, AL.
The scholarship, named for the Apollo 15 Command Module Pilot and global advocate for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, invites students and educators in host communities of major international airshows to compete for an all-expenses paid week at Space Camp.
16 student awards and four teacher awards will be made each year beginning this fall and will make up the Endeavour Classes of 2020 and 2021.
OUR MISSION
Kallman Worldwide is a global advocate for STEM-to-Space careers. Since 2013, we’ve worked with Apollo 15 Command Module Pilot Col. Al Worden, USAF-Ret., and a coalition of industry supporters to promote science, technology, engineering and math education to kids and communities around the world. (You can imagine how much more exciting it is for them to hear about these subjects from a guy who applied what he learned in school to go to the Moon!)
In June 2019, we launched a new international STEM education program, the "Astronaut Al Worden Endeavour Scholarship," to reward aspiring young space explorers and their teachers with a hands-on astronaut training experience at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center’s renowned Space Camp in Huntsville, AL. The program invites students and educators in host communities of major international airshows to compete for an all-expenses paid week-long trip. Sixteen student awards and four teacher awards will be made each year beginning in the fall of 2019. Participating airshows include Avalon (the Australian International Airshow), Bahrain Airshow, Dubai Airshow, FIDAE (Santiago, Chile), Japan Aerospace, Paris Air Show, the Royal International Air Tattoo and the Singapore Airshow.
About Astronaut Al Worden
Alfred Merrill "Al" Worden (Col, USAF, Ret.), was an American astronaut and engineer who was the Command Module Pilot for the Apollo 15 lunar mission in 1971. As one of only 24 people to have flown from Earth to the Moon and back, Worden made a career of breaking through barriers and stepping into the unknown. First in his family to go to college, he graduated from West Point then served in the Air Force, earning his wings as a test pilot before being selected as a NASA astronaut and ultimately landing in the Command Module Pilot seat on Apollo 15, the most scientific mission in the program.
He never looked back. In the decades following his historic 1971 mission, Worden applied his business acumen, technical talents and passion for innovation to a wide range of interests in industry, academia and public service. In particular, he’s an active advocate for the future engineering workforce — in all disciplines — and the communities in which they live and work around the world. As an advocate for STEM, he excited us, so we can excite kids to pursue careers as engineers.
